Multi-Service Mission Opportunities
Aims
The goal is to propose missions with multiple services, that when combined can offer new service all together.
The main objectives of the study are to:
- Identify promising commercial or institutional satellite missions that exploit the upstream integration of telecommunication services with other space-based services.
- Investigate the system architectures and operational concepts of such satellite missions.
- Detail the space-, ground- and user-segment.
- Identify new techniques and technologies which are required to implement such satellite missions and highlight synergies and limitations.
- Establish a roadmap to address any technical, commercial, and regulatory or standardization gaps.
Brief Description
There is growing interest in the potential benefits from combining different space applications into one platform or spacecraft, e.g. systems combining Telecom services with Earth Observation or Navigation functionality (or any other space application).
The project has the following key-characteristics:
- Study and proposal of multiple new services can be incorporated into planned existing or future missions based on the added-value, proposed end-user service, and required space, ground, and user segment developments.
- Selection of 4 missions to elaborate and expand on as a result of the trade-off analysis.
- Proposal of the required space/ground/ and user segment technical and non-technical gaps for future development.
The project is very broad in scope, as it can contain applications for in-space and on-ground services.
