SafeSki Pilot
Pilot Implementation of Safety and Information Services for Ski Resorts
Aims
SafeSki Pilot covers the pilot implementation of Safety and Information Services for Ski Resorts and is a follow-on project of the successfully completed SafeSki study. The SafeSki pilot-demonstration stage aims at increasing the safety and security on slopes, increasing customers and thus revenue, saving time regarding data acquisition and documentation and reducing personnel costs through optimization of internal processes.
Brief Description
Following pre-operational services are addressed in the SafeSki pilot-demonstration: CHIS (Consumer Habits Identification Service) and DSS (Documentation Support Service). These services were identified from an analysis of the requirements and represent the most promising opportunities in terms of technological readiness, costs and other preliminary indicators for business viability.
- CHIS: The “Consumer Habits Identification Service” collects data about end user in ski resorts, enhances and processes these data and provides such data to the ski resort member organisations (e.g. marketing) in support of understanding the virtual preferences of skiers or ski resort operators in support of safety and capacity management of the infrastructure (slopes, huts, …)
- DSS: The “Documentation Support Service” supports operations staff of ski resort in documentation of their large variety of diverse tasks e.g. incident mitigation, accident first-aid supply, and blasting operations). The service provision ensures seamless data exchange between the in-field operations, back office and available technical databases. As much data as possible is autonomously captured, processed and transferred to the target destination.
Following SafeSki features contribute to the project’s opportunity and objectives:
- Seamless data processing
- In-field documentation of various events
- Template and automatic report generation
- GNSS enhancement
- Analysing the skier’s behaviour w.r.t. to environmental conditions
- Snow coverage map generation based on EO data
- Flow/utilization analysis
- Retention time computation
- Critical places analysis
Four ski resorts in Switzerland and Austria confirmed to fully support the pilot implementation of SafeSki, to install the SafeSki system in their premises and to use and validate it as alpha users. The demonstration system is operating at least one winter season – from fall to spring.
