OHB Austria GmbH Secures Tender for National GNSS Interference Detection System in Romania
We are thrilled to announce that OHB Austria GmbH has been awarded the contract by ROMATSA, the Romanian Air Traffic Services Administration, to deliver a nationwide GNSS monitoring and interference detection system. This project represents an exceptional reference for our GIDAS Stationary solution, which has been engineered for continuous GNSS interference detection and analysis.
This large-scale initiative aligns with ROMATSA’s commitment to Performance-Based Navigation (PBN), following European Union guidelines for safe and precise GNSS application in air traffic management. In the coming months, we will deploy our GIDAS Stationary system to 17 airports across Romania, allowing real-time GNSS signal monitoring, GNSS Jamming and Spoofing detection, and alerting across multiple sites, all from a centralized Nationwide Airport Monitoring (NAM) interface.
Project Overview and System Capabilities
Our solution will be deployed in three phases over a 36-month period. Initial system design will evaluate GNSS threats across Romanian airports, followed by pilot implementation at three major airports, and finally, full deployment across all 17 targeted sites. Each airport will be equipped with multiple GIDAS monitoring stations that feed into a local Monitoring Center (MC) and connect with the NAM. This setup provides a web-based interface for real-time GNSS monitoring, interference detection, classification, alerting, interference source localization and statistical analysis of recorded events.
Key capabilities include:
- Automatic Interference Detection and Classification: Our system uses advanced algorithms to detect and classify multiple interference types, such as Amplitude Modulated (AM) and Continuous Wave (CW) jammers, achieving high accuracy through a weighted combination of detection techniques.
- Resilience and Scalability: GIDAS Stationary offers robust, remotely manageable components, designed for resilience and scalability as GNSS threats evolve.
- User Management and Logging: The system provides secure, role-based access and session tracking, enhancing security and compliance with operational standards.
- Post-Processing and Analysis: Captured data supports extensive post-event analysis, offering insights into interference patterns and guiding effective countermeasures for improved air traffic safety.
